Gift of Life
Raising awareness for organ and tissue donation
Gift of Life is the ACT’s peak community group for organ and tissue donation awareness, and is part of the national DonateLife network established by the Australian Organ and Tissue Authority. In February each year the not-for-profit organisation stages a range of community and advocacy events aimed at boosting the number of potential organ donors in Canberra and across Australia.
Morris Walker has supported Gift of Life’s advocacy work for several years, including through an extensive local media campaign and by providing event management services for its major events: Gift of Life’s DonateLife Walk and the ACT Chief Minister’s Awards for Organ Donation Awareness.
For its 10th anniversary in 2016 almost 6,000 Canberrans turned out for Gift of Life’s walk around Lake Burley Griffin, including the Governor-General, Federal Minister for Rural Health, Senator Fiona Nash and ACT Assistant Health Minister Meegan Fitzharris.
As well as rolling out an intensive media and marketing campaign to drive this huge turnout, we also handled all onsite logistics including liaising with the National Capital Authority, sourcing and managing event infrastructure and collateral and even arranging a hot breakfast for the hungry walkers.
When combined with the Chief Minister’s Awards, this event helped make organ and tissue donation a much talked about topic and created significant opportunities for outreach to new sections of the community.
