Australian Taxation Office
In 2016 we travelled to Newcastle to run the Australian Taxation Office’s sports carnival – a legacy event with over 800 staff participating from across Australia that has been staged by ATO volunteers since 1941.
2016 was to be the final carnival in its current format, and Morris Walker was retained to professionalise and restructure the event in line with the organisation’s expectations and code of conduct.
Our team worked on-site at ATO headquarters in Canberra and at its satellite office in Newcastle. A key part of our work was gaining the trust and endorsement of staff who had volunteered their time – some over decades – to bring the sports program together.
Over a seven week period, we worked with the ATO’s project team to design and deliver logistics for the carnival, including transport to and from Newcastle for ATO staff from across Australia; the schedule of more than 20 sporting events and logistics for these including securing venues, risk management and insurances; setting-up, staffing and managing the carnival headquarters over a seven-day period; and arrangements for the official opening and closing ceremony events.
